What a noisy campus!
One of my biggest pet peeves about being up on campus is the lack of peace and quiet. This supposedly quite and calm environment is rarely stay peaceful. Some ignorant students are not realizing how disruptive noise they make when they speaking, laughing, and shouting loudly. Too many times have I been teaching when a group of students stand outside my class and start a conversation or making jokes in a aggravated and obnoxious tone. It’s a total annoyance! Strangely enough, there is lack of concern about this excessive noise. It’s already taken for granted.

Maybe this annoying students are having confusion between what’s called mall and what’s called a campus. Or it’s because the atmosphere of democracy and openness which this campus has misleads them. But, for sure, they don’t get the term of what it’s called manner and boundary. Too bad. But they still can say that they are LEARNING.. another scape goat term. What a luxury students can have

Is it about their habit? or is it because no place for them to socialise with others? Shouldn’t they realise how priceless the time is? Don’t they need to read books, find references in a library or internet, or well…doing the assignment instead of making a noise?
blaaah… I am pretty sure I will miss the ‘environment’ I have at the moment… I will enjoy the day I have here!

Perhaps what they have in mind about “the proper conduct in campus” is different, if not unusual. I’m sure they do know what they should do (reading books, etc), but they do otherwise. They might be suffering from ‘self-discrepancy syndrome.’ What is the educator’s role in addressing this issue?

hmm….. What is the educator’s role in addressing this issue?
It’s a hard question.
I need to ask myself whether I am a qood educator or not.
Our behavior should show ‘lessons’ they need to learn.
But do we have ‘these lessons” they should follow?
It is like an egg and a hen, which one comes first?
